Norse Atlantic Expands Fleet with Additional Aircraft for IndiGo Wet-Lease Partnership

Norse Atlantic airways has just inked a wet lease deal with Interglobe Aviation Limited, better known as IndiGo, for two additional aircraft. This wraps up their plan for six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners outlined in a previous letter of intent.

This new agreement not only boosts Norse Atlantic’s revenue stability but also mitigates market risks. It aligns perfectly with the airline’s goal to maximize fleet efficiency by tapping into both ACMI (Aircraft,Crew,Maintenance, and Insurance) services and its own scheduled flights.

“This partnership marks a significant step forward in our collaboration with indigo,” said Bjørn Tore Larsen, CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic Airways. “the addition of these six aircraft enhances our strategic and financial standing in an unpredictable market.”

The two new planes are set to kick off operations by early 2026 on long-haul routes from India. The initial contract lasts six months but can be extended up to 18 months pending regulatory approvals. Both airlines are eager to explore further extensions if regulations allow it. The first aircraft was delivered back in March and is already flying the Delhi – Bangkok route for IndiGo.

The commercial terms for these extra two planes align with what was shared during the LOI proclamation on November 29,2024.

IndiGo stands tall as India’s largest airline by passenger count and fleet size; it’s also one of Asia’s biggest players globally when it comes to passengers carried and overall market value. In FY25 alone, they transported over 118 million travelers! While primarily focused on domestic routes right now, indigo is gearing up for international expansion by introducing long-haul flights. To facilitate this growth spurt, they’ve ordered 30 Airbus A350-900 wide-body jets with an option for another 70—deliveries expected to start rolling out in 2027.
