At the 2025 Gartner Supply Chain Symposium in Orlando, Tom Enright, a VP Analyst at Gartner, shared an important insight with supply chain leaders: the effectiveness of digital transformation hinges more on the people using the technology than on the technology itself.
Gartner predicts that by 2028, a staggering 60% of digital adoption efforts in supply chains will fall short of thier expected benefits due to inadequate investment in learning and growth (L&D). Enright urged Chief Supply Chain Officers (CSCOs) to take charge in ensuring their teams are well-trained and supported to maximize new tech’s potential.
“While tech can lead to long-term savings,neglecting L&D puts these initiatives at risk. It’s essential for teams to have the skills necessary for effectively utilizing these tools,” Enright emphasized.
