FreightCar America Expands Its Footprint in the Rail Industry
In the U.S., FreightCar America has made quite a splash by securing orders for 1,250 railcars valued at $141 million in the first quarter of 2025. This remarkable figure accounts for about a quarter of all new railcar orders during that period and represents a notable 36% share of their target market—marking their strongest position in over a decade.
Nick Randall, the President and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm on April 24, highlighting ongoing customer demand across various products. He noted that gondolas, open-top hoppers, and covered hopper cars are particularly popular and play vital roles in their extensive lineup.
On another note, Randall mentioned they’ve been keeping an eye on tariff changes. Fortunately for them, it truly seems that FreightCar America’s offerings in North America aren’t affected by tariffs thanks to compliance with the United States-Mexico-canada Agreement (USMCA). They’ll continue to stay updated on any shifts in this area.
