Avianca Delivers a Floral Extravaganza: Over 20,000 Tonnes of Blooms for Mother's Day 2025

Avianca Cargo, a prominent player in the cargo industry, wrapped up its Mother’s Day 2025 season with an impressive milestone—transporting over 20,100 tonnes of fresh flowers. This marks a 15% rise from the previous year, with shipments primarily sourced from Colombia and Ecuador and delivered to various locations in North America and Europe.

This accomplishment cements Avianca Cargo’s reputation as the top flower transporter from Colombia to the U.S., reinforcing its significant role in the global floral logistics arena.

To accommodate increased demand during this busy season, Avianca Cargo ramped up its operational capacity significantly. Thay enhanced their infrastructure and ensured round-the-clock service at key terminals without interrupting regular operations.

“Mother’s Day is crucial for our industry, and we’re thrilled to achieve this record,” stated Diogo Elias, CEO of Avianca Cargo. “This success reflects our commitment to excellence and leadership as a flower carrier between Colombia and the U.S. We celebrate each ton transported as a collective victory with our partners.”

The company maintained continuous flower reception throughout peak times.
They successfully operated around 300 dedicated flights for flowers during this period.

Avianca cargo has over fifty years of experience under its belt:

  • The shipment included various types of flowers like roses, lilies, daisies, and orchids among others.
  • This year saw an impressive growth rate of 15% compared to Mother’s Day 2024.

The Miami hub was essential for Avianca’s operations during Mother’s Day 2025; it served as the main entry point for floral imports into the United States.

Pioneering in perishable transport within Latin America, Avianca was also recognized as the first airline on that continent to earn CEIV Fresh certification—a testament to their expertise in handling perishables which make up more than half of their cargo volume. Proper management includes meticulous temperature control documentation at critical stages along with risk assessments—key elements ensuring product quality throughout transit.

  • Diving deeper into last year’s figures: Avianca transported over 150.3 tonnes through Miami alone—over 85% via this hub.
  • This surge led them to increase their local workforce by about one-third while solidifying Miami’s status as a primary entry point for Colombian and Ecuadorian blooms. The city not only facilitated efficient distribution across states but also played a vital role in boosting economic activity within the floral sector.

“Thanks to partnerships like those with Avianca, MIA has seen daily arrivals exceeding 1,000 tons leading up to Mother’s day,” remarked Ralph Cutié, Director & CEO of Miami International Airport. “That represents nine out of ten imported flowers into America! Flowers remain MIA’s largest import category—nearly accounting for $1.8 billion annually.” He congratulated Avianca on achieving record-breaking shipments this season contributing significantly towards another accomplished year at MIA regarding cargo volume.”

Mia-Dade County Commissioner Raquel regalado emphasized that “Almost every bloom gifted by mothers or grandmothers across America passed through Miami international Airport thanks to collaborations like those with Avianca.” She highlighted how vital these partnerships are along different points within supply chains that support such achievements.
